For our Balmullo Community

MUGA = Multi Use Games Area.

Uniquely, this is an initiative of the entire community which aims to rejuvenate participation in physical activity across all age ranges. The project is run by a constituted management group of representatives comprising stakeholders including Balmullo Primary School, Balmullo Parent Council, Balmullo Park Committee, Balmullo Community Council, Balmullo Hall Committee and Balmullo Young People’s Group.

The project is supported by Fife Council and Members of both the Scottish Parliament and Westminster. Local Councilors are co-opted members of the management group.

The project aims to:

  • Leave a London 2012 legacy in Balmullo by bringing the community together to build a sustainable, long term opportunity for regular participation in a variety of sports.
  • Improve access to and provision for sport at School for 100+ primary school pupils.
  • Improve access to and provision for Sport for a community of 1500 residents.

The project has already demonstrated the first steps to success by forming a constituted management group and engaging the support for Fife Council to draft plans for the re-development for Balmullo Park incorporating a new multi-use games area. Although a legal entity in its own right, the MUGA management group will draw on the policies and resources of Fife Council, Fife Council Education Department and the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations to ensure best practice management of the project is achieved.
